By the Banks of the S-Curve Bends |
The City of Chattanooga's "ribbon of heartache". |
O dear Lord, I can still hear you weep
for young hearts who silently sleep.
O why did their journey end
by the banks of the S-Curve bends?
Rain on me, O dear Lord, rain on me.
let tender young hearts be kept free.
Cleanse this ribbon of heartache, Amen
by the banks of the S-Curve bends?
Our best and our brightest cannot wait
caught between school and work - running late.
Go slow - now, I beg you, go slow
where the Crosses and wild flowers grow.
O dear Lord, we all share in your plight
as another child speeds to your Light.
O why must we lose precious friends
on the banks of the S-Curve bends?
Say farewell to the S-Curve bends
as the Lord comforts families and friends.
Share this prayer 'til we all meet again:
"Undo this ribbon of heartache, Amen." |
Written by Daddy and Craig Kaelin for all the young people lost
to parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, school teachers, Sunday School teachers, mentors, and friends on the City of Chattanooga's S-Curves on Hixson Pike.
Here is a list of those "young hearts who silently sleep":
Sunday, 2nd July 2000
Joshua Robertson (19) - Chattanooga
Jami Dreaden (19) - Chattanooga
Jason Price (22) - Red Bank
Justin Daugherty (23) Harrison
Monday, 16th June 2003
James Derek Hays (20) - Hixson.
Jacqueline Christine Lindy (18) - Ooltewah
Tuesday, 7th September 2004
Katherine Alice "Katie" McCreedy (18) - Chattanooga
The McCreedy family extends our deepest gratitude to Dr. Daniel N. Sansbury, James Secord, Marcie Biggs, Craig Kellogg, Douglas Jack, and Connie Farrar, along with all the members of Rivermont Presbyterian Church for their love, kindness, compassion and understanding during this most painful time our lives.
We also wish to thank the officers of the Chattanooga Police Department Traffic Division and the EMTs of the Chattanooga Fire Department for their efforts on behalf of our daughter and other children lost to "the ribbon of heartache" that is the S-Curves on Hixson Pike.
Thank you, Mr. Buddy Brown (Chattanooga 311), for your warm hand, caring heart, and words of comfort to our darling girl.
On a personal note - if the truth were known - Daddy did not write the words to "By the Banks of the S-Curves Bends" but an angel looking over his shoulder sure did....
Miss Katie "Young Southern Writer 2004".
Kate always had the wonder of words and music in her heart and on her lips.
God bless one and all.

"How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind."
